**CONTEST RULES**

SUBMISSION CATEGORIES

You MUST assign a category to your song. Your song must be submitted either as a Songwriter or Producer.

Songwriter Submission:

You must enter a song YOU wrote or co-wrote; you may not enter a song for someone else.

You must be a student currently enrolled in an Atlanta Metro High School, Charter School , Academy or private school, Grades 8-12. Schools in all counties of Atlanta(Cobb, Dekalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Rockdale) are eligible to enter.

You must be 15 or older, and have a valid e-mail address.

By submitting an entry form to Artist Spotlight, you are agreeing to be bound by the rules established on this page.

Submissions of songwriters can be uploaded via audio mp3, aiff, wav, OR video link to youtube, vimeo, facebook, instagram, or any standard supported video recording of your full song.

Producer Submission:

You must be a student currently enrolled in an Atlanta Metro High School, Charter School , Academy or private school, Grades 8-12. Schools in all counties of Atlanta(Cobb, Dekalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Rockdale) are eligible to enter.

You must be 15 or older, and have a valid e-mail address.

By submitting an entry form to Artist Spotlight, you are agreeing to be bound by the rules established on this page.

Your beat or track must not contain any samples or derivatives of prior work. You must upload your track as an mp3 or wav file.

Number of Songs Permitted

You may enter as many as 3 songs. You may enter multiple songs in one category, or you may enter the same song in multiple categories. Just repeat the entry process if you have more than 1 song to enter.

Copyright

You retain ALL ownership rights to the songs you submit. All entries must be original songs and shall not infringe upon any copyrights or any other rights of any third parties (no sampling). Songs can have multiple co-writers, but only one name should be submitted. As the entrant, you indemnify and hold Artist Spotlight harmless from and against any claims inconsistent with the foregoing. All finalists' songs and the winning song(s) will be available for listening only. Downloading will be blocked to protect you.

Judging

Entries will be screened by the Artist Spotlight staff, and two finalists will be sent to the judges, who will decide on the winners in a event hosted by Industry panelists. Songs are judged on originality, melody, hooks, structure and lyrics (except in the Instrumental category). The performance and recording quality will not be considered for the songwriter submissions.

Online Announcement of the Winners

Two Finalists will be announced in each category on April 12, 2019. The First Prize winners  will be announced on April 26th, 2019. We will make every effort to adhere to these dates, but will not be liable for unanticipated delays. All winners will be notified by email and/or phone, and their names and song will be posted on this website for 60 days.

Responsibilities of the Winners

By entering this competition, all winners agree to the terms of the online submission agreement, which constitutes permission to use the winner's name, song, endorsement and likeness for future publicity purposes without additional compensation. All federal, state and local taxes, and customs fees, when applicable, are the sole responsibility of the winner.

Awards

All awards will be given to the primary entrant on the entry form; the division of awards amongst co-writers is up to the winner. Multiple awards are not given to winning songwriting teams.

All winners agree to release sponsors and Artist Spotlight from all liability regarding awards won.

Languages

Songs may be sung in a language other than English, but the lyrics must be translated to English.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much does it cost to enter Artist Spotlight’s contest? The fee is only $15 per entry. We wanted to keep the fee very affordable so many students can have an opportunity for their work to be heard.

2. I would like to submit 3 different songs for the competition, How much does it cost? Each song costs $15.00 per entry. Therefore your 3 song entries would cost $45.00.  We limit 3 songs per contestant.

3. When is the deadline of the competition?
Entries are currently accepted at this time.  All entries must be entered by March 30, 2019 or earlier.  

4. Can I enter a song I wrote if the rights are owned by a publishing company?Sorry, no (unless you own the publishing company and retain all rights). You and/or your co-writers must own ALL rights to every song you enter.

5. I do not live in Atlanta, can I still enter the Competition?
Unfortunately, this particular event is open only to Songwriters, and musicians enrolled in a High School in the Atlanta metro area. We plan to have more regional as well as national contests in the future.

6. Will I lose my rights to my songs when I enter this song contest?
No, You will retain all rights to all your songs.

7. I only write lyrics and do not compose music, can I enter my lyrics in the contest as a Songwriter?
For this contest, only recorded songs will be considered, as we are looking for song structure, melody and hooks as well as lyrics.

8.  I only write instrumentals, can I still enter the contest as a Producer?
Yes, you may enter the the "Producer Category", by selecting the Producer category section of the entry form.

9. Do you accept credit cards? Yes, we accept credit cards as well as Paypal payment for your submission.

10. What are my chances of winning the contest?

We receive thousands of entries; not everyone's work can be singled out for recognition. Each song receives scrutiny from multiple judges, and if you'd like us to give you a checklist evaluation with a paragraph of personal comments, you can ask for that option on the entry form.

11. What if a judge/panelist/producer/company loves my song and wants to publish or record it? If this happens to your song, the interested party may request your name and when the competition is over; we will contact you to ask permission to put you in touch.
